My Online Store is Live. Now What?

I’m an ecommerce beginner and my online store is live. Now what do I do?

You’re an ecommerce beginner. You heard about the potential to make passive income or the ability to tap into a $154.5 billion (and growing) industry – and you, quite reasonably, got excited.

So you picked a good niche and made your first ecommerce website.

Now what?

It’s easy to get swept up in the hype. But when you’re faced with the reality of a live ecommerce store and you don’t know what to do next it can be intimidating and confusing.

Fret no longer! We’ve put together some helpful hints to get you through the next steps.

We’ll explain what ecommerce beginners need to do to start scaling their businesses and earn money after their stores have gone live.

1. Get Subscribers

Sometimes it takes a while for ecommerce beginners to discover the importance of subscribers. The reality is, they’re so critical to your business that we have an entire article dedicated to this topic!

Customers who subscribe to a website or store means they are willingly handing over their personal information and are willing to be contacted by that website or store.

Why does that matter?

If someone subscribes to your first ecommerce website, it means he or she is interested enough in your products to potentially buy them.

That’s why it’s important to safeguard your subscription list. Using this list to alert your subscribers about sales and bolster your website’s traffic will pay dividends in the long run. Even better, it’s something you can start working on right away as soon as your store is live.

So a good first step to take after going live is to display a prominent “Subscribe” button on your site. Make sure you start compiling those emails, and create emails that will grab their attention and keep them interested in your store  – you’ll thank yourself later.

2. Have a clear call to action (CTA)

Every website or business has a desired action that it wants visitors to take. Whether that’s a click, an impression, or a sales conversion, your call to action needs to be clear and compelling.

If you’re an ecommerce store owner, it’s safe to say the action you want your visitors to take is making a purchase. Other calls to action may include subscribe, learn more, contact us, or any other message that provokes your visitor to do something.

A good way to test your calls to action is to have a friend or a relative – beta test your site and look for clear calls to action.. Ask them if the journey your website sends them through leads them toward making a purchase.

One element of a clear call to purchase is a prominently displayed cart checkout icon. Ensure that “buy” icons are obvious and that customers are notified that their selections are stored in their cart.

3. Get Reviews

Start collecting reviews as soon as possible. This step is crucial for stores at any stage, but especially so for store’s that have just gone live.

Ask every person who subscribes, purchases, or takes other actions on your site to review their experience. Consumers rely heavily on online reviews to determine the reputation of a store in order to determine whether they will buy,

Your website’s reviews, or lack thereof, are often the deciding factor between a sale and an abandoned cart. Click here to learn more about reviews and how Kliken can help you to optimize yours.

4. Market Your Products

Once your site is live and setup to the standard you are hoping to achieve, it’s time to  start marketing your products. Doing so puts them on the map as soon as possible to help your store gain traction.

Resources like Google Free Listings and online SEO tools are invaluable for new ecommerce stores. They start getting your products in front of the right shoppers – the ones who are most likely to buy them.

A few great marketing  and advertising strategies to adopt early on are the following:

Consistently check that your store’s user experience for mobile + desktop is a good one.Develop a unique selling proposition: What distinguishes your ecommerce store from the competition? If you don’t already have one, Get a niche: Are your products unique enough? Your advertising efforts will be more successful if your product offerings are uncommon or different from your competition.

5. Build trust: Trust badges + social media

One of the main factors in winning business and getting sales conversions is trust. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for ecommerce newbies to appear trustworthy right out of the gate.

We have two tips for you to expedite your trust-building phase:
1. By developing a robust social media presence, and
2. By getting trust badges for your site.

Trust badges and a well thought-out social media presence tell your website’s visitors that you’re a vetted company. They make ecommerce beginners seem less scammy and often lead to more sales conversions.

In terms of social media, having a robust presence on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or the like shows your prospective customers that there are folks who follow you and are invested in your products, giving them more reason to do the same.
